PriestmanGoode has partnered with aircraft seating startup IDEA AIR to design IDEA ONE, the lightest reclining economy seat on the market.
Launched at Aircraft Interiors Expo, Hamburg in 2019, the seats are a feat of design and engineering. With an experienced international team from the US and Europe, IDEA AIR set out to create a new pioneering lightweight economy seat that would satisfy the needs of passengers and airline operators alike.
Together with IDEA AIR, the PriestmanGoode team developed the design to focus on comfort, space and ergonomics, and to be simple and cost-effective to manufacture.
The seat is made from few parts, lowering the cost of manufacture as well as improving reliability for operators. IDEA ONE is primarily aimed at high density single aisle cabins (A320 and B737) on short haul flights.
Extensive ergonomic testing was carried out during the development process to ensure that these new techniques enhance passenger comfort and maximise living space.
Weighing 8kg only, the reclining seat is a step change in economy class seating. The lightweight seat is made possible through various technological advances including a full composite backshell and the integration of the seat pan into the seat foam.
